The Larger Inkjet Prints (made in 2023 - 2024)

The LARGER
Inkjet Prints
2023-2044

Introduction
The impulse to make inkjet prints after many years of creating only published blog projects was, I believe, initiated by the three years of isolation due to the pandemic and the feeling that the retrospective exhibition & publication I was publicly promised in late October, 2019 by the Museum of Wisconsin Art would be placed "on hold" . . . perhaps indefinitely . . .  Making physical prints would perhaps help give me a (false) sense of control over my life . . . my destiny . . .

(See my blog project Snapshots for the detailed story)

The series of 18 pandemic inspired blog photography projects I created between the winter of 2020 and the fall of 2022 culminated in a decision (in September 2022) to make a collection of inkjet prints of what were for me the essential images that came out of the pandemic experience.  (See my Pandemic Inkjet Prints project.)  Making prints again, physical tangible images which embodied all that I was feeling at that time, was the best way I could think of for coming to some kind of terms with all that time I had felt so out of touch and discontent with all that was happening in my world at that time.

~  Trump's unimaginable presidency certainly added another level of anxiety to my Pandemic experience.  ~  And then Epson stopped making the inks I needed for my old Epson 7600 printer.  I tried using alternative inks which proved to be of unsatisfactory quality to make the high quality prints I demanded.  When testing the the alternate inks in my old printer it died on me.  ~  I ordered a new printer, the Epson 6000 in January, 2023.  ~  In mid January I scheduled to have cataract surgeries on my eyes.  A few weeks after the the second surgery I experienced a retinal tear in my left eye, then a few weeks after that I experience a retinal tear in my right eye.  ~  I had to begin re-printing my Pandemic Inkjet Prints with my new printer with a gas bubble in the left eye, then an oil bubble in my right eye, through February and March 2023.  ~  After the removal of the gas and oil bubbles in my eyes, I was at last able to initiate and complete the Pandemic project in May (and June) then initiate new inkjet print projects with my new Epson P6000 printer.  (The Blue Angels project, Silent Dialogues, and then the
Double-page Illuminations for An Imaginary Book project.)

To say the least, it was a challenging time for me, and I felt obsessed with the need to complete the Pandemic Inkjet Print project before I could move on with my creative process.  (I have written a more detailed account about all this in my Introduction to the Pandemic Inkjet Prints blog project.)

All of the 25 images in the Pandemic Inkjet Print project you will be seeing here, via the hyperlinked blog title (below) are the published blog versions of the new 16x20" prints I had made with my new 600oP printer.

I printing projects and their blog versions which I have listed (above) are in chronological order.  The published blog images were based on the files I use for making the new inkjet prints made with my new Epson P6000 printer.

By far the most involved printing project has been the 12x12" inkjet Project:  The Complete list of 12x12" Inkjet Print BOOKS & PROJECTS which was initiated after I produced my first Book of inkjet prints, dated May-June 2024.   (Click on the link to see the full listing of 12x12" Books & PROJECTS.  Each title is hyperlinked to the actual blog project.)

*

Throughout the time between April 2023 and the present, while working on the 12x12" Books, I have also made a number of images in larger print sizes exceeding the 12x12" format. I love the intimacy of the smaller 12x12" inkjet prints, but some images work best in larger sizes, and not all images can be reduced to the square format in a satisfactory way.  Certainly the Symmetrical Photographs I have made benefit from the larger print sizes.

(Note: I also should note here that many of the 12x12" inkjet image files are large enough that I can make in LARGER sized inkjet prints.  The straight photographs are, however, limited to the 16x20" format including tonal surrounding mattes; the symmetrical images can be printed much larger, but I am limited by my printer and the maximum paper size it can take, which is 24" wide and 100 feet long.)

My new Epson P6000 printer has served me wonderfully.  It produces prints at a much faster speed compared to my old Epson 7600, the new Epson Ultra-chrome HD inks for the new printer provide a bit more brightness and slightly broader range in certain colors.  The new inks combined with the Epson Enhanced Matte paper I use, have been laboratory tested to be of archival quality for 200 years.  I have found that the quality of the earlier prints made with the 7600 Epson printer to be of an equally high quality and are have been made with archival inks and paper as well.

I have presented below my collection of the LARGER inkjet prints in in three parts; each part is a non-thematic collection of my most favorite images.

Part I includes 21x21" sized square images on a 24x24" white paper base.  Most of these images as Symmetrical Photographs, and essentially enlarged versions of their 12x12" inkjet print predecessors.

Part II includes what I call the Extra Large prints (maximum hight 21" with lengths varying to 26" long.)  All of these images are symmetrical photographs, but in longer formats.  There are duplications in some cases in which the square and longer rectangular versions of the same image have been prints.  (The paper base varies according to the image size.  Below each image I have indicated image and paper base sizes.)

Part III includes 16x20" prints and some larger 18 x 21 or 22" prints;  all are printed on a paper base of 20x24."

All of the images include a tonal matte that surrounds the image.  I consider the mattes an integral part of the image.  Each print is surrounded by an inch or more of a white paper base.
I have indicated the image sizes and the paper base sizes titles for each Part, and in some instances under each image along with a descriptive title, and some additional text is included under certain select images.

I am very concerned that you see my blog images of the inkjet prints with the greatest possible image fidelity; if you are viewing this blog project on a desktop or laptop computer, I want to encourage you to click on each of the images (twice) which--I hope--will give you access to an alternate viewing mode that's possible with my blog projects and images.  Please read the brief statement below, and if you would like more technical information, click on the highlighted blog page title How to Best View My . . .

A brief note about "How to Best View My Online Blog Images"
If you are viewing this project on a desktop computer or a laptop, I encourage you to read my blog explanation regarding How to Best View My Online Blog Images.  In brief, click on the images once, then once again; this will (hopefully) enlarge the image and present it in a dark tonal environment at its maximum viewing quality in terms of image sharpness, luminance, tonal gradations, etc.  Once you have entered this alternate viewing space you can then use your zoom-in & zoom-out keyboard (or menu) options to adjust the image size, and darken or lighten your computer's screen brightness to suit your equipment and viewing preferences.
